Chevayo

Blessed to have built a home in the beautiful mountains of BC with my family, I find delight in leading soulful community yoga retreats and immersing myself in mountain adventures.

My journey in yoga began at a young age as a guiding light and is a tapestry of learnings — from 200 Hatha RYT to Vinyasa RYT, certifications in Anusara, yin yoga, breath work, trauma informed yoga, sound healing and remote wilderness first aid-each thread weaving a story of healing and growth blending my passion for wellness with the power of nature to heal.

18 years as a hairstylist taught me to listen to the stories of diverse souls from all walks of life without judgment, reminding me of the profound interconnectedness we all share thus fostering my love for all beings.

Co-founding Exhale Adventures with Johanna has allowed me to create a sanctuary for those seeking a harmonious balance between inner growth and connection to the natural world. Through gentle guidance, I strive to bring you back to your essence, strengthen your bond with the earth, and inspire a life lived from the heart!

Johanna

Johanna

Growing up surrounded by nature in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, I found solace in the majestic peaks and dense pine forests of Banff and Yoho National Parks where I spent my youth.

After obtaining an honours bachelor of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, I spent much of my adult life as a hiking guide, lodge chef, and an outdoor leader for teens at a semester school in Colorado. My connection to the natural world runs deep, eventually shaping me into a steward of the 54 acres of land I now reside on in the beautiful Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia, where I have created a retreat business with my husband Jon and son Wiley (and 2 dogs Sunny and Buddy).

I have been running retreats with Chevayo for over 2 years out of For-rest Retreat, including monthly ‘Soul Sessions’ (3 hour community wellness sessions), Yoga Nidra and soundbath offerings, full day and weekend wellness retreats, mountain bike & yoga retreats and hike & paddle retreats.

Guided by my intimate bond with the land, I am on a lifelong journey to share the wonders of nature with others, inspiring them to cherish and protect the precious ecosystems that have shaped me into the person I have become.

I am a certified natural chef and hiking guide, a retreat owner and retreat facilitator. I spend my free time skiing, mountain biking, hiking, drumming and building trails on our property for others to enjoy.

“I had an amazing time in Cerritos, Baja, mountain biking and doing yoga with amazing women who left me feeling very inspired, encouraged, nourished and supported. I made many new friends and I can’t wait to do the next trip. I hope to see everyone again soon. Thank you for a wonderful experience!” ~ Baja Bliss 2025 retreat participant

I had such an amazing time! Again, I don’t think the trip would be the same without all of you incredible ladies running the show. The food, yoga, biking, and surfing, and of course the cacao ceremony. None of those would have been possible on a run of the mill package trip. Thank you SO very much” ~ Baja Bliss 2025 retreat participant

“I fell in love with the Baja on this retreat! I had no idea there was so much to explore in the area. Johanna’s food, Chevayo’s yoga and all the planned adventures were pure bliss. I barely had to think as everything was taken care of and I could just focus in on my own self-care and inner journey. I came back so nourished which is exactly what I needed.” ~ Marlo (Baja Bliss 2025 retreat participant)

“Johanna and Chevayo create a safe, welcoming environment embracing each individual without judgement or expectation. Free flow emotional space allows for in depth self exploration. I always emerge with new insight and understanding of self.” ~ Kendall M.

“This is the first time I have attended a retreat. Every instructor made us feel welcome and was eager to help and mentor us at our own pace. The entire retreat was phenomenal, beyond words can express. Thank you.” ~ A.

“The sound bath was amazing at the retreat. I didn’t expect to experience what I did with the full body experience, feel I released something that wasn’t serving me.” ~ Madison

“I was so impressed and thought the entire experience was overwhelmingly positive and well done. From the guest to the schedule to the venue and food. ” ~ Charmaine D.

From the moment I saw this retreat advertised I knew it would be an amazing experience. All my expectations of the retreat were surpassed! The facilitators were amazing, organized and professional. I have so much gratitude for the ease of how my food allergies were accommodated; the food not only was amazing but it was safe for me and I didn’t feel like I had a special/separate diet from the other participants. Additionally, the location is spectacular, the facilitators amazing, the coaches knowledgeable and the entire vibe was just lovely. I cannot recommend this retreat and organizers enough! You must go if you have the opportunity. ~ Melanie

About the Baja

Baja California’s eastern coastline along the Sea of Cortez is a breathtaking region known for its stunning landscapes, rich marine biodiversity, and vibrant history. This area is characterized by rugged desert terrain meeting the tranquil, azure waters of the Gulf of California. The Sea of Cortez, often referred to as “The World’s Aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau, is home to an incredible variety of marine life, including whale sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, and countless species of fish. This makes it a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, whale watching, and hiking. The region offers incredible hiking trails that wind through dramatic desert landscapes, past towering cacti, and up to breathtaking viewpoints overlooking the sea.

Historically, the Baja California Peninsula has been inhabited for thousands of years, with indigenous groups such as the Cochimí leaving behind rock art and petroglyphs that still stand as a testament to their presence. Spanish missionaries arrived in the 17th and 18th centuries, establishing missions, some of which still stand today. The area later became significant for pearl diving and fishing, industries that sustained local economies for centuries. Today, the Sea of Cortez side of Baja remains a mix of traditional fishing communities and growing eco-tourism destinations, where visitors can experience a blend of history, culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. Whether exploring the remote islands of the Gulf, hiking in the surrounding desert, or indulging in fresh seafood, this side of Baja California offers an unforgettable adventure.
